INKA (Persero) has won the tender for the procurement of 100 units Meter Gauge (MG)passenger coaches and 50 units Broad Gauge (BG) passenger coaches for Bangladesh Railway Company. This project is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and with this project, PT. INKA once again has managed to penetratethe export tradeby undertaking the market for Indonesia’s superior railway coach products internationally. Therefore, PT. INKA has successfully proven that the Indonesian railway industry is able to compete internationally.

It is the second tender after PT. INKA has won the bid in the year of 2006 for 50 Broad Gauge coaches. The railway coaches which have been exported to Bangladesh are; air-conditioned sleeper railway coach (WJC TYPE Coaches), air-conditioned passenger coach (WJCC TYPE Coaches), non-air-conditioned passenger coach / WEC, dining coach / dining wagon (WECDR TYPE Coaches), and also power plant coach / power wagon (WPC TYPE Coaches).

INKA (Persero) has prepared the aforementioned tender for 22 months after which the contract was finally signed in late November 2014 and the project is expectedto be completed by the end of July 2016. PT. INKA will supply 13 units Air Conditioned Meter Gauge Sleeper Coaches -WJC; 24 units Executive passenger coaches (MG Air Conditioned Coach -WJCC); 36 Units non-AC Economy passenger coaches (MG Shovan Coach / Bill Crowder); 13 units dining coaches (MG Shovan Coach with pantry and guard brake-WECDR); 8 Units Power supply coach (MG Composite Power Carriage-WPC); 6 Unit Meter Gauge First Class Sleeper coaches (MG First Class Sleeper – WFC).

Prototype inspection has been undertaken for all the passenger coaches with Meter Gauge category by the Project Director and the team from Bangladesh Railway from 11th – 18th February 2016 at PT. INKA. It is revealed that the inspection results are quite satisfactory; therefore PT. INKA will execute the mass production of the coaches.

In order to maintain and assure the production qualityto be in accordance with the technical specifications, all the railway coaches must undergo a series of static testing or examination before being handed over to the Bangladesh Railways. Due to the unavailability of Meter Gauge railway line in Indonesia, the dynamic examination will be conducted after the coacheshas arrived in Bangladesh. Based on the production schedule, the first railway coach shipment with category of Meter Gauge (11 WEC, 2 WECDR, 1 WFC and one WPC) will be handed over in the month of March 2016.

As for  the Broad Gauge railway coach category, the order includes 4 units of sleeper coaches/carriages (BG Air Conditioned Sleeper Coach – WJC); 4 units first class passenger coach (BG Air Conditioned Chair Coach – WJCC); 4 units sleeper coaches (BG First Class Sleeper – WFC); 25 units Non air-conditioned passenger coaches (BG Shovan Chair Car – WEC); 8 units dining coaches (BG Shovan Chair coach with pantry and guard brake – WECDR); 5 unit Power supply coaches (BG Shovon Coach and Power Coach – WEPC), all of which arecurrently in the process of prototype production so that the prototype inspection examination can be conducted soon as like that of the railway coaches from the Meter Gauge category.

The above mentioned railway coaches made by PT. INKA (Persero) are specially designed in accordance with the request from Bangladesh Railway which is prioritized on comfort and safety for all users or passengers.
