Indonesian Fashion Designer Showcased Bold Talent in Bangladesh Fashion Week 2019

Dhaka, 26 February 2019: Indonesian Fashion designer Merdi Sihombing showcased his finest creations at Tresemme Bangladesh Fashion Week 2019. During the prestigious annual event held in Dhaka on 25 February 2019, he showcased his fashion collection made from ulos, a traditional woven fabric from North Sumatra, as primary material, combined with a modern and elegant touch. Around 300 guests who attended his show were amazed by his collections as well as his voice as he sang Indonesian folk songs to accompany his models on the catwalk.

“Bangladesh has a high appreciation for original handmade crafts, therefore I am certain that traditional Indonesian fabrics such as woven fabrics and Batik will get a place in the hearts of Bangladeshis”, said HE Ms. Rina P. Soemarno, Ambassador of Indonesia to Bangladesh. She thanks Merdi Sihombing for his participation in Tresemme Bangladesh Fashion Week 2019. She is of the opinion that, Indonesian traditional fabrics are not just part of the heritage of culture and identity of the Indonesian people, but also has practical value for everyday use and modern fashion design.

This is the first time Mr.Merdi Sihombing participated in Bangladesh Fashion Week, receiving the invitation directly from the Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh. Focusing on Indonesian traditional fabrics, Mr.Merdi Sihombing is keen to introduce Indonesian traditional fabrics, which Indonesia is blessed with abundantly.

The fashion show by Merdi Sihombing has received a very enthusiastic welcome from the audience who gave him a standing ovation. The folk songs that were performed by the fashion designer himself have added sparks on the runway and stage. Mr.Merdi Sihombing received tributes and appreciation from the audience for his unique and incredible work.

Events such as Tresemme Bangladesh Fashion Week provide a wide opportunity to enhance Indonesia’s fashion diplomacy.
