Indonesian students win awards at 2016 ICYS

Wilbert Osmond ( Chandra Kusuma High School, Medan ) was awarded a gold medal in the computer science category for his research paper entitled Chaotic Boolean Networks ( CBN-01 ) Encryption. Luh Ayu Nanamy Khrisnashanti Eva Susila ( Senior High School SMAN 4 Denpasar, Bali ) won a silver medal in the environmental science category for her research paper entitled Salacca Coffee From Snake Fruit Seed Waste With Pineapple Skin and Papaya Latex.

Bronze medals were awarded to Patricia Tiara ( St. Aloysius 1 High School, Bandung ) in engineering for her research paper entitled Nono Box ( Long Distance Suction Fan Using Tornado Principles ) and Isabela Pu Dwi Andini ( Trinitas High School, Bandung ) in the computer science category for her research paper entitled OCa Application to Reduce Weight.

Tania Suradja ( St. Laurentia High School, Tangerang ) was also awarded a bronze medal in the life sciences category for her research paper entitled The Effect of Tridax Procumbens Extract on Bacteria Found on Feet. A bronze medal was also awarded for a collaborative effort between Kadek Adindya Pradnya Putri ( Senior High School SMAN 1 Denpasar, Bali ) and Putu Agastria Satyana ( Udayana University, Bali ). Together they wrote up a research paper entitled Insect Potential as an Antibiotic in life sciences category.

A special award was presented to Mas Daffa Muhamad from Depok in the mathematics category for his research paper entitled Solution to the Traveling Salesman Problem for Logistics Distribution in PT Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir Regional Depok Using the Application of Linear Programming and Solver Program.

Comprising selected high school students from different regions across Indonesia, Kompas reports that the team was accompanied by Monika Raharti, the director of the International Conference of Young Scientists ( ICYS ), Janto V Sulungbudi from Parahyangan Catholic University and Syailendra Harahap from the Center for Innovative Learning.

The ICYS was established in 1994. This year, the conference attracted more than 200 participants from 28 countries. The Indonesian students who participated in this conference were the winners of the Lomba Penelitian Belia Nasional ( Youth National Research Competition ). ( wir/asw )
