PUAN MAHARANI LAUNCH “SAIL TOMINI 2015” OFFICIALLY

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Puan Maharani, is scheduled to perform launching officially “Sail Tomini 2015 and Boalemo Festival” on May 5, 2015 in Epicentrum Walk Kuningan, Jakarta. The event will be attended by a number of cabinet ministers, ambassadors of friendly nations, officials and public figures for Central Sulawesi, North Sulawesi and Gorontalo and a number of members of the media.

“Sail Tomini 2015” is the 7th Sail Indonesia after “Sail Raja Ampat” year 2014. “Sail” it self, is an annual event Indonesian Maritime Council (DEWAN KELAUTAN INDONESIA – DEKIN) which aims to encourage the image of Indonesia as a maritime country and increase the contribution of marine tourism in Indonesia.

Efforts towards to Sail Tomini 2015 is long enough. Starting from Workshop “Initiating SAIL Tomini” dated December 6 – 8, 2011 in Palu, Central Sulawesi; involves 3 provinces, 15 districts and relevant ministries. Since then, several hearings conducted on a number of ministries until the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 42 of 2014 of the National Committee Organizer ” Sail Tomini 2015″ and the Central Sulawesi province designated as the Host Operator.

Tomini Bay is the largest bay in the world at the Equator with an area ranging from 59,500 km2. Known as the heart of the world’s coral triangle, has high biological diversity, as well as unique and beautiful ecosystem characteristics. This region has a good geostrategic position; because in the wedge of Wallacea and Webber line, as well as the Indonesian archipelagic sea lanes (ALKI) II and III. Tomini Bay also has potential as an ”Center for Production and Processing of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Oil And Gas mining”.The bay has an area of 1,031 hectares of coral reefs and mangrove forest area 785.10 hectares. In that area there is Nani Wartabone’s Park, with endemic species such as Yellow Fin Tuna, Anoa, Babi Rusa, Maleo bird and other species that have not been identified.

On the other hand, Tomini Bay area faces a number of important issues, among others: (1) The fisheries resources are likely to decline; (2) the quality of human resources are limited; (3) the poverty rate above the average; (4) food and nutrition situation of medium or high risk; (5) competitiveness of the economy tend to be weak; and (6) the threat of environmental degradation.

Tomini considered have the potential of coastal and marine resources are plentiful for the development of marine tourism and national food barns. Both festival and Sail Tomini aim to introduce marine tourism potential to the world. Tourist destination offers a unique, beauty and comfort. This international event can also open a conducive investment opportunities in various sectors of marine and fisheries, being a model of accelerated development of the islands and remote areas, as well.

“SAIL Tomini 2015” is expected to trigger the development of the maritime industry in the Gulf of Tomini, boost regional economic development, particularly for economic improvement of the area as well as the increasing rural people’s welfare. (SE)
