SCHOLARSHIPS FROM INDONESIAN GOVERNMENTS

There are two main schemes of scholarship offered every year to Bangladeshi and Nepali students, namely Darmasiswa Scholarship (page: SCHOLARSHIP DARMASISWA) and KNB Scholarship (page: KNB SCHOLARSHIP). Apart from the two scholarship, other schemes (page: OTHER SCHOLARSHIP) are occasionally in the offer, as well as technical courses and training in various sectors, many in cooperation with international organizations or other countries. Of course, should you choose to, you are welcome to study in international programs in our universities (page: 50 University in Indonesia).

I. Darmasiswa Scholarship is offered to all foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia to study Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian language), traditional music, traditional dance, Indonesian craft, Indonesian culinary, or tourism in one of 45 different universities/higher education institution located in different cities in Indonesia. This program is organized by the Ministry of Education & Culture in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The scholarship is conducted in 3 schemes, i.e :

  • Regular 1 (One) Year – Darmasiswa RI scholarship program to study Indonesian language, traditional music, traditional dance, Indonesian craft, Indonesian culinary, or tourism,
  • Regular 6 (Six) Months – Darmasiswa RI scholarship program to study Indonesian language, and
  • Summer Course 3 (Three) Months – Darmasiswa RI scholarship program to study a specific education course.

The scholarship covers tuition fee, disbursed directly to the relevant higher education institution, and monthly cost of living allowance in sum of IDR2.000.000 (two millions Indonesian Rupiah). The scholarship does not cover international air ticket.

To be eligible for selection, an applicant should:

  • be not more than 35 years old,
  • have completed secondary education,
  • be in good health as proved by medical certificate duly signed by a doctor,
  • be able to communicate in English, and
  • have a basic knowledge of the applied field.

To apply, an applicant should:

  • fill out application form, available at the Embassy,
  • provide copy of academic transcript and academic certificate,
  • provide medical certificate duly signed by a doctor,
  • provide full-page copy of passport valid for at least 18 months from time of arrival in Indonesia,
  • provide passport size color photograph (5 pieces),

Please note:

  • The Embassy will select applicants for their eligibility before submitting their documents to the Ministry of Education & Culture through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Successful applicants should be willing to teach foreign language in the nearest secondary school.
  • Successful applicants should be willing to sign agreement with the Embassy highlighting his/her principal obligations while in scholarship.
  • Succesful applicants are expected to apply for Short Visit Visa (VITAS) or Social Visit Visa (VKSB) at the Embassy in Dhaka. Succesful applicants are prohibited to use Tourist Visa to study in Indonesia, as it cannot be converted into the Limited Stay Permit necessary for study.

II. KNB Scholarship is offered to foreign students to study in Master degree program at one of 13 universities in Indonesia for 3 years, consisting of one year of Indonesian Language and Preparatory Programs and 2 years of Master Program. The scholarship covers:

  • Tuition fee for 36 months, disbursed directly to the relevant higher education institution,
  • Settlement allowance of IDR 1,000,000 (one million Indonesian Rupiah); will be given upon arrival in Indonesia,
  • Monthly cost of living allowance in sum of IDR 1,650,000 (one million six hundred and fifty thousand Indonesian Rupiah), while attending the Indonesian language and preparatory programs. After the students finished their Indonesian language course and preparatory programs and started their Master programs in Indonesia, in addition to their monthly cost of living allowance, the students will obtain monthly research allowance of IDR 400,000 (four hundred thousand Indonesian Rupiah) and books allowance of IDR350,000 (three hundred and fifty thousand Indonesian Rupiah) for the next 24 months.
  • Limited health insurance for medical services not more than IDR150,000 (one hundred and fifty thousand Indonesian Rupiah) per month
  • A round-trip international airfare (economic class) from the international airport of the students’ home countries to Indonesia, including local transport in Indonesia to the host university.

To be eligible for selection, an applicant should:

  • be not more than 35 years old,
  • possess Bachelor degree,
  • have a TOEFL score of minimum 450,
  • be in good health as proved by medical certificate duly signed by a doctor, and
  • be nominated by the Indonesian embassy.

To apply, an applicant should:

prepare the required documents, i.e.

  • nomination letter from the respective government official,
  • 2 (two) academic recommendation letters,
  • scanned passport (personal data page only) or birth certificate,
  • scanned Bachelor diploma/certificate and academic transcript, translated into English,
  • scanned TOEFL score certificate obtained within the last 2 years
  • scanned medical certificate duly signed by a doctor,
  • download invitation letter from the KNB scholarship website,
  • obtain nomination letter from the Embassy by bringing invitation letter, passport or birth certificate, Bachelor diploma/certificate and academic transcript,
  • complete the online application process.

Please note:

  • Successful applicants are expected to have a valid passport minimum for 2 years and to apply for Short Visit Visa (VITAS) or Social Visit Visa (VKSB) at the Embassy in Dhaka. Successful applicants are prohibited to use Tourist Visa to study in Indonesia, as it cannot be converted into the Limited Stay Permit necessary for study.
  • Successful applicants should be willing to sign agreement with the Embassy highlighting his/her principal obligations while in scholarship.
  • Successful applicants are urged to depart for Indonesian as soon as possible after obtaining the appropriate visa from the Embassy.
  • Successful applicants are strongly advised not to be accompanied by any family member since the monthly stipend provided is only appropriate for one person.
